Believe it or not, DuPage County, Illinois might be one of the most family-friendly areas in the country. It’s home to many businesses and schools and contains several recreational areas.

DuPage County itself has a population of nearly one million people. According to the 2010 census, the population was at 916,924 people and has risen year after year. The DuPage County school district contains over 161,000 students at 245 schools.

DuPage County was originally a part of Cook County, but the two counties separated in the 1800s. DuPage’s radius is 336 square miles (327 square miles of land and 9 miles of water) and is named after the DuPage River that runs through the middle of the county. The river is named after the famous French trapper DuPage.

DuPage County has a ton of attractions and outdoor recreation. It is home to the largest open-air mall, the Oakbrook Center, plus the DuPage Children’s Museum, and the Tivoli Theatre, one of the oldest theaters in the United States.

DuPage County is also home to the popular cities of Naperville and Wheaton, and the village of Oak Brook.

Naperville has a population of 147,853 according to the 2010 census. According to USA Today, it’s also one of the safest cities to raise a family. There are two public K-12 schools as well as several private schools. It’s also home to many famous businesses, such as Kraft Foods.

Wheaton, which is the county seat of DuPage County, is located 30 miles outside of Chicago. It’s the main place of residence for many commuters in and out of Chicago. It’s population as of the 2010 census was 52,294. There are 23 public schools, several private schools, and 3 institutions of higher county all within Wheaton.

Wheaton is also known for their Park District, which has won the National Gold Medal Award of Excellence from the National Recreation and Park Association four times. In total, there are over 52 parks covering more than 800 acres, including the famous Cosley Zoo.

Oak Brook is another popular village in DuPage County. According to the 2010 census, the population was 7,883. It’s the headquarters for many famous businesses such as McDonalds, Blistex, and Ace Hardware, to name a few. There are public schools, private schools, and even a community college.

DuPage County is a home to many famous businesses, and with that comes a growing population and growing families. However, while the county itself might be family-friendly, problems at home still can arise.
